The Shroud
Within Eclipse Ridge, “The Shroud” acts as a concealing veil, safeguarding the secretive lives of supernatural beings. This shroud shields them from the risks of being hunted or persecuted by humans while granting them ability to prey on humans. It also establishes a protective barrier against potential threats posed by other supernatural entities.
Breaching the Shroud
When the Shroud is breached, the consequences can span a wide spectrum, ranging from a trivial “oops” moment to something considerably more ominous or calamitous.
Although not required to keep their identities concealed, supernaturals who choose to reveal themselves do so at their own risk. Their existence is largely considered a myth by most of humanity and is often met with prejudice as it deviates from the prevailing social norms.
Enforcement of The Shroud
Species are responsible for policing and controlling shroud breaking individuals of their own kind; this can be done through a codified framework, such as a pack or coven, or on an ad hoc basis. The security of a supernatural species is the business and of the upmost importance to every member of that species.
Other groups, such as hunters, police, or even other species might take matters into their own hands if they believe there is a risk of exposure, or for their own sick enjoyment.
If questions or issues arise during a scene, or help is needed deciding how to progress after a Shroud break, please don’t hesitate to reach out via a ticket in Discord or messaging a mentor.
Consequences
Players OOC should seek to understand the possible consequences or outcomes of breaching the Shroud.
The conspicuous transformation of a werewolf in the middle of a city park at noon would likely have a more significant impact and potentially far-reaching consequences compared to a vampire discreetly feeding on a victim in a secluded dark alleyway.
Breaches of the Shroud may result in various consequences, including but not limited to:
- Banishment from one’s pack, coven, klatch, or brood.
- Retaliatory actions by affected parties.
- Loss of familial or friendly relationships.
- Criminal prosecution by legal authorities.
- Abduction by Grave Corp for the purpose of behavior modification.
- In extreme cases, death, subject to approval by the Board and consent of the character(s) involved.
Note from the Board
Habitual avoidance of ICC for Shroud breaches will lead to intervention from staff. No one is untouchable no matter their species or station in Eclipse Ridge.
